What is breast reconstruction?

Breast reconstruction is a surgical procedure designed to rebuild a breast that has been removed during cancer treatment or lost due to trauma. How is breast reconstruction surgery performed?

There are several techniques used for breast reconstruction, and to a large extent, the approach used will depend on the anatomy of the patient and the results of the mastectomy, including the amount of natural tissue remaining in the breast.
